All CISR OnLine exams must be taken in the presence of a proctor or monitor. The proctor/monitor and student must sign an affidavit affirming that the exam was taken in accordance with the state requirements and the proctoring rules listed below, within the timeframe of one hour. After you have completed the exam, mail the affidavit and any applicable state fees listed on the affidavit to:

National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research
Attn: OnLine Training
P. O. Box 27028
Austin, TX 78755-2028

The proctor/monitor must agree to do the following:

  • Meet the proctor/monitor qualifications established by the state or course for which credit is being sought.
  • Refuse to certify the student if he or she violates any proctoring rule.
  • Submit any additional documents required by the student's state.

State Requirements for Proctors

In order to earn credit hours for your state CE requirements, you must select a proctor/monitor who has the qualifications defined by your state. All states require that you select a disinterested third party to monitor your test except, AZ, IA, IN, NY, SC, and VA, which have special requirements. (See below). A personal affidavit must be submitted for all exams.

A disinterested third party is defined as someone with no business or family relationship to you. For example, a general manager, a sales manager, a fellow agent, or a spouse would not qualify as a disinterested third party. Several states have special requirements for selecting the proctor. These requirements are listed below. If your state is not listed below, use the disinterested third party definition to select your proctor. Be sure that you know the proctor requirements for your state.

Arizona, Iowa, and Indiana

Self-study exams must be proctored by another licensed insurance agent.

Arkansas

Self-study exams (including online) must be proctored by a disinterested third party who is registered with the Arkansas Department of Insurance. Call 501-371-2750 for a list of registered proctors or to request a form your proctor can use to register with the Arkansas Commissioner. The affidavit must also be notarized.

New York

The exam must be monitored by an individual or organization approved by the NY State Department of Insurance. The monitor may charge a fee for this service. To find a New York monitor, go to http://www.ins.state.ny.us/, click on 'Agents & Brokers', then click on 'Education' and view the monitor list by county and state.

South Carolina

Self-study exams must be proctored by a South Carolina-approved individual or organization. Information concerning available proctors may be obtained by calling 803-731-9460 or 803-255-0001. There will be an additional fee for this service.

Virginia

Self-study exams may be proctored either by a disinterested third party or a supervisor at your workplace.

Proctoring Rules

The proctor must read and follow these guidelines for administering the CISR OnLine exam.

  • Remain in the presence of the student from the time the student starts the exam to the time he or she finishes, or until the end of the maximum time allowed for the test, whichever comes first.
  • Be certain that the student does not receive any outside assistance while taking the exam. This includes course materials, help from other persons, prepared notes, and access to other websites via simultaneous session. The student may use a calculator.
  • Confirm the student's identity by using a photo identification such as a driver's license (Massachusetts law requires the student to produce 2 forms of identification).
  • The student may not launch the exam more than one time per registration fee. Disconnects or technical difficulties must be reported to CISR in order to get approval for a second exam attempt.
  • CISR designation program exams must be completed within one hour. It is the responsibility of the proctor to confirm the time in and out of the exam by entering the times in the fields provided during the exam process.

Several states have additional procedures in regard to sending your affidavits. These requirements are listed below. Be sure that you know the additional requirements for your state.
