First Things First
Read the instructions for your course, emailed after registration. If you have any questions, contact cisronline@scic.com and get them answered!
System Requirements
You may use any computer with a high speed internet connection and Internet Explorer 6 or later to log in to your course. You’ll need Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader to display elements in the course. Check the computer you are using for the system requirements.
Pop ups!
These little windows drive everyone crazy. Do you know how to allow pop ups from a website? Feel free to contact cisronline@scic.com for assistance.
Study Habits
Self study means self discipline. You’ll have to set aside a workspace and a little time every day, then get it done! An hour a day for two weeks is the average amount of time needed for an 8 credit-hour online course. Short, frequent study sessions are recommended.
Place of Study
Your study space should be quiet and well lit. Try not to multitask online.
Work offline if it suits your learning style
The lessons may be printed or saved to your computer for use offline. Click on the forms library, locate the lesson you wish to save or print and click on the link.
Learning Objectives
Review section learning objectives at the beginning of a study session. Grasp the big picture and fill in the details. The examination questions are drawn from these learning objectives.
Set Goals
Set reasonable goals for study completion. Give yourself the time to master the material.
Use Peer Review
Do you know a fellow employee or mentor at work who’ll talk about your study with you, and help you check your understanding of concepts?
Use the Course Mentor
If you have specific questions about the course content or would like help with specific concepts or theories, contact our course mentor to ask questions about the course materials.
Final Exam
Select your exam proctor/monitor in advance
The final exam must be completed within thirty days of your first log-in. Find someone who is willing to serve as your proctor in advance to avoid delaying your exam. Make sure your proctor is present, and your testing area is quiet and free of distractions.
Prepare for the exam
The final exam questions aren’t the same as the self quiz questions. Make sure you’ve completely reviewed the learning objectives and self quizzes in order to be ready for the final exam.
Take your time
The exam is a 100-point test comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions worth two points each. You are allowed one hour for the exam.
Mark a question for review if you’d like to reconsider your answer before submitting the exam.
Take a deep breath. It’s only an exam. Test anxiety can discourage even the most seasoned professional! If you don’t pass the first time, you can take the course again – it’s all about what you learn!
Continuing Education Reminder
A passing score of at least 70 points is required to receive state continuing education credit.
One Final Thought
Jot down specific things you will do following this course—new ideas, improvements, and contacts. Try to complete this step as soon as possible after the course while your ideas and enthusiasm are still fresh.
Get all you can out of your CISR course — and have a great time !
