AUSTIN, TX (August 12, 2016) — Ms. Kelly Danielle McGowan, CISR Elite, Executive Commercial Lines CSR for NBT- Mang Insurance Agency in Norwich, New York, has just been awarded the most prestigious honor available to insurance customer service representatives: the 2016 National Outstanding CSR of the Year Award.
The Society of Certified Insurance Service Representatives (CISR) and the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) selected Ms. McGowan as the winner of this award from a field of 43 state winners. After five finalists were chosen from this field, a blue-ribbon panel of five judges evaluated the finalists based on their individual contributions to the insurance community, and the strength of their essays written on the topic: “Many in our industry came into insurance by chance, but have built a career by choice. How did you come into the industry, and what are four reasons you stayed and built a career?”
Ms. McGowan was praised by an associate for “her commitment to provide and uphold only the highest standards in customer service excellence but also to provide the same for her internal customers and co-workers. She leads, she cares and she strives for excellence.”
In her essay, Ms. McGowan mentions that she came into insurance by chance and turned it into a career by choice. She eloquently summarizes, “The challenge, people, opportunity and necessity are the reasons I have made the choice from job to career. But within each of those reasons lies choices as well. We can choose to rise to the challenge or shun it – I rise to it. We can chose to embrace people or stay at arm’s length – I embrace it. We can chose to search for opportunity or remain stagnant – I search for it. And we can choose to become the necessity or treat our job as the necessity – I am the necessity”.
Ms. McGowan receives a cash award of $2,000, a distinctive gold and diamond lapel pin, and her name is inscribed on a sculpture on permanent display at The National Alliance headquarters in Austin, Texas. A scholarship will be awarded to her employer, NBT- Mang Insurance Agency for participation in any National Alliance program.
In addition to the selection of Kelly McGowan as the national award recipient, four national finalists were chosen from a particularly competitive field of applicants:
