Don Donaldson

Don Donaldson is President and CEO of LA Support Group, Inc., - a risk management consulting company, headquartered in Montgomery, Texas. Founded in 1989, LA Support Group, Inc., provides risk management, auditing, and training services to domestic and international businesses, and insurance companies. Don's insurance career began as an independent agent and then moved into claims for companies like Custard Insurance Adjusters, CIGNA, and Crum & Forster Commercial Insurance. Don obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1991, the Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA) designation in 1998, and his Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation in 2000. He holds a Level 3 qualification and Certification in Homeland Security (CHS-III). Don is a National Faculty Member and a member of the Curriculum Advisory Committee for the Certified Risk Mangers Program. Industry associations include The Global Association of Risk Management Professionals (GARP), The American Risk & Insurance Association (ARIA), The Society of Insurance Trainers & Educators (SITE), and the Council of Litigation Managers (CLM). Don's articles and commentaries have been published in the National Underwriter, Claims Magazine, Rough Notes, The Insurance Record, and Resources. Don has been active in insurance and risk management education and training for over 30 years.

Allen Messer began his insurance career in March of 1971. He has worked for several different insurance companies in various capacities and has been involved in the independent agency system as a producer and agency owner. Allen currently consults agencies, companies, risk managers, and attorneys as well as instructs various seminars and live webinars. He serves as an Educational Consultant and is a National Faculty member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.

Jerry Rhinehart

Bio Detail

Jerry Rhinehart graduated from the University of West Florida in 1970 (College of Education). After teaching at the high school level for a brief time, he moved into the insurance industry. He worked for a property and casualty direct writer for several years. In 1983, he and his wife opened an independent insurance agency in Tallahassee, Florida. While there he focused primarily on the life, health, and financial services area. Additionally he began working in the Continuing Education field as a speaker and writer. The property and casualty division was sold in 1995. Today Jerry continues to operate Rhinehart & Associates located in Panama City, Florida, where he works with clients concerning life insurance, long-term care, and annuities. Jerry serves on the National Faculty of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. He attained his CIC designation in 1986, CLU in 1987, ChFC in 1988, and RHU in 1997. He is a Director and Past President for the Tallahassee Chapter of CLU and ChFC. He also served as Director and Secretary/Treasurer for Professional Insurance Agents of Florida and is a past Agent of the Year for that organization. He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (Austin, TX). Since 1986 Jerry has conducted more than 1,500 programs to insurance, CPA, attorney, and Human Resource groups on topics that range from Estate Planning, Long-Term Care, Life Insurance, Annuities, Business Perpetuation, and Health Insurance. He frequently writes articles for various insurance trade magazines on the above topics. Additionally, he serves as an expert witness in legal proceedings regarding life and health insurance matters.

Richard Pitts*

Richard S. Pitts is Vice President and General Counsel to Arlington/Roe & Co., Inc., an insurance brokerage and managing general agent headquartered in Indianapolis. Rick also serves as general counsel to the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana, Inc. As counsel to the "Big I," Rick speaks annually at the association's New Laws Seminars and teaches various seminars on insurance and employment related matters. Rick has also presented continuing education seminars to insurance professionals nationally and in states such as Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Rick is a 1983 graduate of Wabash College and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. He clerked for the Honorable Patrick D. Sullivan, a judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1986-87. Rick is admitted to practice before Indiana state and federal courts, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and is a member of local, state, and national bar associations. He has tried cases and participated in over seventy appeals. Rick has served as a panelist and lecturer on a variety continuing education subjects, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, "Mold: Issues Under the Microscope" for the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF), and "Insurance Issues for Builders" for the Indiana Builders Association. Rick has also served as chair of several ICLEF seminars, including "Advanced Corporate Practice," "Privacy Law," and "Insurance Coverage Issues." Rick has also presented seminars on "Insuring Fiduciary Exposures," "Insurance Coverage Disputes," and "Agency Succession and Perpetuation," for the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana. He has co-authored articles appearing in the Indiana Law Review.

Doug Johnson

Bio Detail

Doug Johnson is the president of JSL Aviation, A Marsh & McLennan Agency, LLC company. Doug has 40 years' experience in the aviation insurance industry. His career began in Melbourne, Florida where he was the managing partner of a large regional aviation insurance agency. When that agency was sold to a national company, Doug joined them as vice-president and regional manager of their Atlanta office. He served in numerous capacities for the agency, including national marketing manager. Prior to the start of his aviation insurance career, Doug spent seven years with a special intelligence unit of the United States Air Force. He is a private pilot. In addition to authoring numerous articles on aviation insurance, he has served on the adjunct faculty of the Florida Institute of Technology, School of Aeronautics, and Brevard Community College. He is also a popular speaker at meetings and conventions. Doug served on the Business Management Committee of the National Air Transportation Association during the development of the NATA Safety First program. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of that program. He also serves on the education committee of the Aviation Insurance Association and was recently elected as its Chairman. In this role, he is leading the development of the curriculum for the newly revamped Aviation Insurance Core Principles and Concepts course offered by the Association as a part of the Certified Aviation Insurance Professional curriculum. Doug was among the first to earn the prestigious Certified Aviation Insurance Professional (CAIP) designation. More recently, he was awarded the CAIP Gold status for continuing commitment to service and education in the aviation insurance industry. As an insurance counselor in the field of aviation insurance he assists his clients with coordinating and successfully marketing their insurance needs. In 2016 Doug was awarded the prestigious Pinnacle award which is presented annually to a single individual by the Aviation Insurance Association for outstanding service to the industry.

J. Christopher Bunbury*

Chris Bunbury is an Environmental Strategist and President of Environmental Strategist, Inc. (ESI), located in LeLand, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources. In 1988, he worked in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry as a retail commercial insurance producer. As the environmental insurance industry evolved, it was a natural transition for Chris to move into this evolving field. Chris has worked with a wide variety of entities from business, to government, education, and environmental service providers. In 1996, he set out to develop an educational training program to assist insurance agents to proactively address the environmental issues that impact their clients and prospects. In 1998 after two years of research, which included meeting with over 300 independent insurance agencies, Chris created ESI. The mission is to train agents about the environmental issues that impact their commercial insureds and the solutions available.

JoAnn Clarke*

JoAnn Clarke began her insurance career in 1974 as a Customer Service Representative/Agent in a large independent agency. During the past 38 years, JoAnn has had the opportunity to work on the agency, company, regulatory and academic sides of the insurance industry. She was a marketing representative for SAFECO Insurance Company before joining the Washington Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC). As the Insurance Education Manager, she had responsibility for approving CE courses, conducting audits, and investigating non-compliance. She left the OCI in 1989 to return to her passion by accepting a teaching position at Clover Park Technical College where she taught the Insurance CSR Program for nine years. In 1999 JoAnn formed JMC Insurance Consulting & Training to develop curriculum and provide customized training for insurance companies, agencies, and associations across the United States. JoAnn joined The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research in January 2012 as an Academic Director. She serves as the Educational Consultant in Hawaii and Alaska and is a member of the National Faculty. JoAnn earned her CIC in 1981, CRM in 2001, CISR in 2007, and CSRM in 2009. JoAnn's diverse background and years of experience allow her to bring practical examples and illustrations into her presentations.

Roc Starks is Executive in Residence, Head of the Insurance Department at Bowling Green State University in Northwest Ohio. He teaches Introduction to Insurance, Life and Health Insurance, and other classes to undergraduate students specializing in insurance. Prior to his role at Bowling Green, Roc was the Senior Vice President, Director of Corporate Insurance and Safety with Citizens Bank, NA, headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island. Citizens Bank has approximately $133 billion in total assets, making it one of the largest commercial banking companies in the United States by deposits. The bank has over 20,000 employees, 1,600 banking centers, and approximately 3,200 ATMs with banking and non-banking operations in about 40 states. As the leader of the corporate insurance team, Roc was responsible for all insurance programs in the U.S., including directors and officers, bankers professional liability, self-insured workers compensation, loss prevention, and numerous other insurance related issues. Roc has over 28 years' experience in both personal lines insurance and financial institution risk management. He started in financial institution risk management in 1990 after beginning his insurance career as a debit agent with Prudential Insurance Company. He has a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Bowling Green State University and received the CIC designation in 1992, CRM in 2001, and ARM in 2012.

Daryl Collins*

Philip Collins started his career in 2005 at Crump Insurance Services working for the National Financial Lines (NFL) practice group in Nashville, TN. The NFL was responsible for marketing business in support of the Crump financial lines brokers across the country. In 2008 Philip moved to the Atlanta office of Crump to grow a Financial and Professional Lines book from ground up, eventually joining with Matt Sheehan in Dallas to create a partnership between the Nashville, Atlanta and Dallas Crump / CRC offices. The Sheehan / Collins team won multiple production awards while at Crump / CRC including Newcomers of the Year in 2010 and Professional Liability Brokers of the Year in 2013, placing over $40 M in D&O, E&O and Cyber premiums annually. Philip, with Worldwide Facilities since 2016, is a member of Chubb's Producer Advisory Counsel of wholesale brokers (PAC) and is a licensed CE instructor for a variety of topics including D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability and Cyber.

R. Tilden

Bryan is a National Lecturer and Expert Witness in the field of insurance. Prior to starting his own firm, he was the Director of Technical Affairs and Director of Education for IIANC. Since entering the insurance business in 1974 as an Account Executive, he has worked for major brokerage firms on Fortune 100 accounts around the nation. He specialized in large retention programs, utilizing the international insurance marketplace. Tilden has been active in insurance education as a grading panel member for the Insurance Institute of America and the American Institute for Property Liability Underwriters. He has taught in every state in the U.S., and also teaches in Bermuda and Europe. He has served on the Education and Technical Committees for the IIANC and worked with the State of North Carolina on pre-licensing and continuing education. In 1988, IIANC presented him with the Ernest F. Young Education Award, and in 1989 Agent of the Year. He has taught in schools for both the PIA and IIA, been a speaker at RIMS and CPCU meetings, and has spoken at various conventions. He earned his CIC designation in 1977 and is a National Faculty Member for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. An active volunteer in rescue services, Bryan is an internationally certified technical rescue instructor. In 2013, he received the Higgins and Langley Memorial Rescue Award for a Swiftwater Rescue Incident. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators along with their NC Chapter, and teaches arson investigation courses.

David Culbertson*

Dave Culbertson graduated from California State University at Fullerton prior to joining Safeco. During his seven years with Safeco, Dave worked in six different offices in Casualty, Property, and Surety. He had extensive training in surety bonds from 1974 to 1980 and worked as a trouble shooter for property and surety claims. Dave later trained as a Surety Bond Underwriter handling many of the largest contractor/developer accounts in Southern California. Dave served as Vice President of Friis & Company, Inc., in Riverside, California, from 1980 to 1983 and was responsible for the production and maintenance of construction bond accounts. In 1983, Culbertson Insurance Services, Inc., began operations and currently represents Great American Insurance Company; Travelers/St. Paul; Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland; The Guarantee Company of North America USA (GCNA); International Fidelity Insurance Company; North American Specialty; Developers Surety and Indemnity Company; along with a few smaller companies. Culbertson Insurance Services, Inc. writes bonds exclusively for these companies with the help of two bond producers and a three member support staff.
