Sarah Warhaftig

Bio Detail

Sarah Warhaftig is an independent Risk Management and Insurance consultant. She previously served as Director of Risk Management Programs for The National Alliance, where she was responsible for the Certified Risk Manager and Certified School Risk Manager designation programs. Sarah held the positions of Director of Operations for Aparicio, Walker & Seeling, and immediate past President of AWS Risk Management, LLC in Metairie, Louisiana. Clients included public entities, third party administrators, boards, and private corporations. She consulted with large municipal and not-for-profit clients regarding their insurance and risk management programs. Sarah was responsible for assisting clients in managing through insurance program transitions. Post Hurricane Katrina, she worked with municipal clients in Stafford Act compliance, quantifying losses and perfecting claims, as well as analyzing continued risk retention abilities. As Vice President/State Director of Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc., a third party claims administrator licensed in 38 states, Sarah was responsible for day-to-day operations, as well as profit and loss accountability for branches throughout Louisiana. Sarah served on the Municipal Account Business Development Team and as account manager for several entities, including the City of New Orleans, the City of Memphis, Jefferson Parish, and the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board. During the course of her career, Sarah has held positions as risk management director, assistant vice-president of claims, and regional claims manager. She is a graduate of Tulane University and of Rutgers Law School.

William Toll

Bio Detail

Bill Toll is president of Bill Toll & Associates, Inc., an organization specializing in insurance and risk management education and professional development, located in Austin, Texas. He is a National Faculty member for the Society of CIC, and serves as educational consultant at CIC Institutes, CRM Courses and Ruble Seminars across the country. Prior to forming his own firm, Bill worked with The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, headquartered in Austin, Texas. There he was one of the developers of the Growth and Performance Standards (GPS) study which is now the leading source of benchmark agency performance data in the country. He continues to help with several areas of the work of The National Alliance, and the National Alliance Research Academy. Prior to joining The National Alliance, Bill worked with Safeco and Fireman's Fund insurance companies, and through these two carriers, and the National Alliance, he has worked with hundreds of independent agencies throughout the United States in such areas as strategic planning, staff organization and stratification, producer compensation, workflow management, and general management. Both his agency and company experience provide unique perspectives to his present work in the field of education. He is proud to be developing and distributing information with immediate and practical value to insurance and risk management professionals. Bill earned a degree in finance and accounting, and received his CIC designation in 1984.

Lance Ewing

Bio Detail

Lance J. Ewing has extensive executive experience in the field of risk management and insurance including his role as EVP Global Risk Management for Cotton Holdings, Inc. Previously he was the VP Real Estate and Hospitality & Leisure Industry Practice Group Leader at AIG with a portfolio of $1.4B of GWP. Prior to this position he served in senior global risk management capacities for Caesars Entertainment, GES Exposition Services/VIAD and for the City of Philadelphia School District. Mr. Ewing additionally worked for various insurance companies including Lumbermen's Underwriting Alliance, Pennsylvania Hospital Insurance Company (PHICO) and New York Lumberman's Insurance Trust in risk management, underwriting and risk control capacities. He also was President of three insurance captives. Mr. Ewing received his Master's degree in Law & Justice from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his second Master's degree in Occupational Safety Engineering. In addition to his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and his International Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation, he is a matriculated Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) candidate and has completed his Enterprise Risk Management Professional designation (ERMP). Lance was National President in 2003-2004 for the Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and was also their Chief Risk Officer (CRO). He teaches risk management as a faculty member for the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. He also served as a Board member for the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Board. In 2004, he was privileged to have a scholarship in his name (Lance J. Ewing Educational Scholarship) for the Certified Risk Management International designation which grants educational scholarships. He serves on the University of Mississippi Business School (Risk Management) Advisory Board, where a scholarship was created "Ewing Endowment for Business Excellence in Risk Management and Insurance". Mr. Ewing was honored as the Real Estate Insurance Leader in 2014-2015 for Globe Street and was the 2008 Risk Innovator of the Year. In 2007, Lance was named Risk Manager of the Year (Business Insurance). He has authored several articles on insurance, risk management, crisis management, and workers' compensation. He is a frequent speaker on enterprise risk management, global claims, disaster recovery, and risk financing issues for organizations including Claims Litigation Management (CLM), USLAW, Harmonie Legal Group, RIMS, Willis Real Estate Symposium, and AON Conference. Mr. Ewing is an expert witness as part of the Insurance Expert Network. Lance has worked and spoken internationally to promote insurance and risk management as well as developed unique risk transfer and claims settlement opportunities for his companies and clients. Mr. Ewing continues to be a strong and outspoken supporter of the risk management/insurance profession.
