Ian Greenway

Bio Detail

Ian Greenway is President and CEO of LIG Marine Managers, a Commercial Marine and international MGA & Lloyd's Broker with offices in Florida, London, Texas, Pennsylvania and California specializing in Longshore and commercial marine insurance. Ian was born in England and educated at London University in computer systems design and physics. He studied at the New York College of Insurance and is one of a handful of people holding insurance licenses in both England and America simultaneously. Ian has worked in and with the Lloyd's marketplace for over 30 years. He is a National Faculty Member for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors and numerous other professional organizations. He also sponsors and presents numerous seminars on marine insurance as well as acting as a marine consultant, author, expert and congressional witness. Ian's extensive experience traveling between England and United States affords a unique understanding of the insurance business on both sides of the Atlantic.

Jeff Odom*

Bio Detail

Jeff Odom is an Insurance Analyst and Instructor for the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA). Jeff's duties at FAIA include writing, updating, and revising FAIA's Florida Insurance Research Library. Jeff also writes and edits the Florida General Lines Study Manual. Along with writing, Jeff teaches both live and webinar classes. Topics include customer service, ethics, personal lines, insurance law, and licensing law. Jeff graduated from Florida State University in 1988 and began his insurance career with an independent insurance agency. He has been married for over 25 years and has two children.

Cassandra Cole*

Bio Detail

Dr. Cassandra Cole is the chair of the Department of Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate and Legal Studies. She is also the William T. Hold Professor in Risk Management and Insurance in the Dr. William T. Hold / The National Alliance Program and Director of the Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance Program. She teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate level, has served on nine dissertation committees and worked with numerous undergraduate students on research projects. She received her undergraduate degree from Howard University and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Dr. Cole presents her work at both academic and industry conferences and has been an invited speaker at various workshops and symposiums including the Insurance Education and Career Summit, the Women in (Re)Insurance Networking Event, the National Society of Insurance Premium Auditors Conference, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans' Trustees and Administrators Conference, and St. John's University's Travelers Insurance Research Symposium. She has also received several grants for course development and research and is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on the American Risk and Insurance Association's Early Career Scholarly Achievement Award Committee and the Spencer Educational Foundation Board of Directors. She has as served as president of Southern Risk and Insurance Association (2012-2013) and chair of the American Risk and Insurance Association's Membership Committee (2008-2015). Her articles have appeared in a variety of publications including the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the North American Actuarial Journal, Applied Economics, the Journal of Insurance Issues, the Risk Management and Insurance Review, the Journal of Insurance Regulation, the CPCU eJournal, the Journal of Financial Service Professionals, and Best's Review. She is currently the co-editor of the Journal of Insurance Regulation and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Financial Service Professionals.

Chris Christian

Chris Christian began her insurance career in 1985, joining GAF Insurance Services, a retail agency. After six years with GAF, Chris moved to the carrier side, opening the San Diego branch office of RLI Corporation, an underwriter of specialty lines insurance. The San Diego office was dedicated to directors and officers liability coverage and was the launching pad for Chris's specialization in professional liability. By 1997, when Chris departed RLI to join London American General Agency, she had established herself as an underwriter of hard-to-place nonprofit directors and officers liability accounts, healthcare directors and officers liability, and managed care errors and omissions coverages. At London American, Chris launched two underwriting facilities for healthcare-related errors and omissions and directors and officers coverages, as well as brokerage facilities for professional liability and property/casualty lines. Chris joined US Risk Brokers in November 2005 as Vice President and Senior Broker, specializing in professional liability. She has earned her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designations and is a frequent industry speaker and author. She is also active in industry associations.

Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson is the president of JSL Aviation, A Marsh & McLennan Agency, LLC company. Doug has 40 years' experience in the aviation insurance industry. His career began in Melbourne, Florida where he was the managing partner of a large regional aviation insurance agency. When that agency was sold to a national company, Doug joined them as vice-president and regional manager of their Atlanta office. He served in numerous capacities for the agency, including national marketing manager. Prior to the start of his aviation insurance career, Doug spent seven years with a special intelligence unit of the United States Air Force. He is a private pilot. In addition to authoring numerous articles on aviation insurance, he has served on the adjunct faculty of the Florida Institute of Technology, School of Aeronautics, and Brevard Community College. He is also a popular speaker at meetings and conventions. Doug served on the Business Management Committee of the National Air Transportation Association during the development of the NATA Safety First program. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of that program. He also serves on the education committee of the Aviation Insurance Association and was recently elected as its Chairman. In this role, he is leading the development of the curriculum for the newly revamped Aviation Insurance Core Principles and Concepts course offered by the Association as a part of the Certified Aviation Insurance Professional curriculum. Doug was among the first to earn the prestigious Certified Aviation Insurance Professional (CAIP) designation. More recently, he was awarded the CAIP Gold status for continuing commitment to service and education in the aviation insurance industry. As an insurance counselor in the field of aviation insurance he assists his clients with coordinating and successfully marketing their insurance needs. In 2016 Doug was awarded the prestigious Pinnacle award which is presented annually to a single individual by the Aviation Insurance Association for outstanding service to the industry.

Jay Williams*

Jay Williams is a member a National Faculty and the Online Faculty of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. He is a veteran of the insurance industry, starting his career in 1979. Jay spent 21 years on the agency side of the industry, working in almost every capacity from producer to agency owner. He then spent nine years with the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) as a full-time instructor and running their for-profit subsidiary for six years. Jay subsequently served as President of two subsidiaries of Bankers Insurance Group, followed by serving as Vice President at UPC Insurance Company, both in St. Petersburg, FL. He most recently served as the Interim CEO for Applied Client Network, the association of member users of Applied System agency management software. He was instrumental in the successful transition to their new relationship with Smith-Bucklin. Currently, Jay is the VP of Business Development and Underwriting for FHB Insurance, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Florida Home Builders Association. FHB Insurance is a construction risk wholesale/MGA operation. Jay is also a consultant to insurance companies, associations, and industry-related partners. In addition to teaching classes across the country, he serves as an expert witness and a subject matter expert. Jay has been teaching formal insurance classes since January 2000. He began teaching the Florida 200-hour pre-licensing class. While with FAIA/FMS, he taught numerous technical insurance classes. In addition, Jay is a highly respected authority on agency E&O loss control. During his term at FAIA/FMS he served on IIABA's Loss Control Working Group for a number of years. He was a member of the Professional Liability Committee for IIABA that oversees the national Big I E&O programs when he left FAIA in 2009. His experience on the agency, association, and company sides gives him a uniquely rounded perspective on the insurance industry.

Allen Messer

Allen Messer began his insurance career in March of 1971. He has worked for several different insurance companies in various capacities and has been involved in the independent agency system as a producer and agency owner. Allen currently consults agencies, companies, risk managers, and attorneys as well as instructs various seminars and live webinars. He serves as an Educational Consultant and is a National Faculty member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.

Gerald Hargrove

Jerry Hargrove retired as President of Northside Insurance Services on December 1, 2003, after 36 years as an independent agent. He continues as CEO of Insurance Litigation Counselors and Ed Trak Insurance Seminars, providing litigation support, expert witness services, consulting in agency management, marketing, training, and errors and omissions management. Jerry was honored as Marketeer of the Year in 1989 by IMMS and National Professional Agent of the Year by PIA in 1987. Jerry served as PIA National President in 1993. Driven to advance agents' interests, Jerry is a strong advocate of continuing education. He earned his CIC designation in August 1983 and has been a member of the National Faculty for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors since 1986. A teacher and student, Jerry has a Bachelor of Science degree in business and criminal justice from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from John Marshall University School of Law. Jerry spends his free time on the Etowah River and experiencing his second childhood with his 12 grandchildren.

J. Christopher Bunbury*

Chris Bunbury is an Environmental Strategist and President of Environmental Strategist, Inc. (ESI), located in LeLand, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources. In 1988, he worked in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry as a retail commercial insurance producer. As the environmental insurance industry evolved, it was a natural transition for Chris to move into this evolving field. Chris has worked with a wide variety of entities from business, to government, education, and environmental service providers. In 1996, he set out to develop an educational training program to assist insurance agents to proactively address the environmental issues that impact their clients and prospects. In 1998 after two years of research, which included meeting with over 300 independent insurance agencies, Chris created ESI. The mission is to train agents about the environmental issues that impact their commercial insureds and the solutions available.

R. Tilden

Bryan is a National Lecturer and Expert Witness in the field of insurance. Prior to starting his own firm, he was the Director of Technical Affairs and Director of Education for IIANC. Since entering the insurance business in 1974 as an Account Executive, he has worked for major brokerage firms on Fortune 100 accounts around the nation. He specialized in large retention programs, utilizing the international insurance marketplace. Tilden has been active in insurance education as a grading panel member for the Insurance Institute of America and the American Institute for Property Liability Underwriters. He has taught in every state in the U.S., and also teaches in Bermuda and Europe. He has served on the Education and Technical Committees for the IIANC and worked with the State of North Carolina on pre-licensing and continuing education. In 1988, IIANC presented him with the Ernest F. Young Education Award, and in 1989 Agent of the Year. He has taught in schools for both the PIA and IIA, been a speaker at RIMS and CPCU meetings, and has spoken at various conventions. He earned his CIC designation in 1977 and is a National Faculty Member for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. An active volunteer in rescue services, Bryan is an internationally certified technical rescue instructor. In 2013, he received the Higgins and Langley Memorial Rescue Award for a Swiftwater Rescue Incident. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators along with their NC Chapter, and teaches arson investigation courses.

Charlie Matejowsky is Vice President of financial services for Van Dyke, Rankin & Co. Inc., in Brenham, Texas. He joined the firm in June, 1982, as a personal and commercial lines producer. Since March 1990, he has served in his current position and works almost exclusively on the life and health side of the business. He serves both individual and group clients. Prior to joining Van Dyke, Rankin & Co., he served 15 years as a classroom teacher and coach in several Texas cities. Charlie is a 30-year member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and is a charter member of the American Health Insurance Association. He earned his CIC designation in 1986 and is a member of the National Faculty for the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, Ruble Faculty, and CIC mentor. He has served as a moderator for the Life Underwriter Training Council for 18 years, including three years as one of LUTCF's online moderators. In 2016 Charlie was awarded the "Bruce Murray Tall Texan Award" by NAIFA - Texas. The award is based upon the demonstration of the following criteria: political involvement, association involvement, community service, education and membership.

Don Donaldson

Don Donaldson is President and CEO of LA Support Group, Inc., a risk management consulting company, headquartered in Willis, Texas. Founded in 1989, LA Support Group, Inc., provides risk management services including; risk assessment, risk control, and disaster/crisis management training to U.S., and international businesses and insurance companies. Don's insurance career began as an independent agent and then moved into claims for companies like Custard Insurance Adjusters, CIGNA, and Crum & Forster Commercial Insurance. Don obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1991, the Registered Professional Adjuster (RPA) designation in 1998, and his Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation in 2000. He holds a Level 3 qualification and Certification in Homeland Security (CHS-III). Don is a National Faculty Member and a member of the Curriculum Advisory Committee for the Certified Risk Mangers Program. Industry associations include The Global Association of Risk Management Professionals (GARP), The American Risk & Insurance Association (ARIA), The Society of Insurance Trainers & Educators (SITE), and the Council of Litigation Managers (CLM). Don's articles and commentaries have been published in the National Underwriter, Claims Magazine, Rough Notes, The Insurance Record, and Resources. JoAnn Clarke*

JoAnn Clarke began her insurance career in 1974 as a Customer Service Representative/Agent in a large independent agency. During the past 43 years, JoAnn has had the opportunity to work on the agency, company, regulatory and academic sides of the insurance industry. She was a marketing representative for SAFECO Insurance Company before joining the Washington Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC). As the Insurance Education Manager, she had responsibility for approving CE courses, conducting audits, and investigating non-compliance. She left the OCI in 1989 to return to her passion by accepting a teaching position at Clover Park Technical College where she taught the Insurance CSR Program for nine years. In 1999 JoAnn formed JMC Insurance Consulting & Training to develop curriculum and provide customized training for insurance companies, agencies, and associations across the United States. JoAnn joined The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research in January 2012 and currently serves as a Senior Academic Director. She serves as an Educational Consultant for both CIC and CPRM and is a member of the National Faculty for CIC, CPRM and CISR. JoAnn earned her CIC in 1981, CRM in 2001, CISR in 2007, and CSRM in 2009. JoAnn's diverse background and years of experience allow her to bring practical examples and illustrations into her presentations.
