Faculty NameStephanie Perkins
Stephanie has been in the insurance industry for over 12 years. Shortly after college, she joined a national broker and began working with high net worth clients. During this time, she completed Accredited Advisor of Insurance and her Certified Insurance Counselor designations. In 2015, she joined the AON team and is currently an Associate Regional Director for the Jacksonville office. She is also a member of the Northeast Florida Estate Planning Council and the Women in Insurance and Financial Services.
Faculty NameJoAnn Clarke
JoAnn Clarke began her insurance career in 1974 as a Customer Service Representative/Agent in a large independent agency. During the past 43 years, JoAnn has had the opportunity to work on the agency, company, regulatory and academic sides of the insurance industry.
She was a marketing representative for SAFECO Insurance Company before joining the Washington Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC). As the Insurance Education Manager, she had responsibility for approving CE courses, conducting audits, and investigating non-compliance. She left the OCI in 1989 to return to her passion by accepting a teaching position at Clover Park Technical College where she taught the Insurance CSR Program for nine years.
In 1999 JoAnn formed JMC Insurance Consulting & Training to develop curriculum and provide customized training for insurance companies, agencies, and associations across the United States.
JoAnn joined The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research in January 2012 and currently serves as a Senior Academic Director. She serves as an Educational Consultant for both CIC and CPRM and is a member of the National Faculty for CIC, CPRM and CISR.
JoAnn earned her CIC in 1981, CRM in 2001, CISR in 2007, and CSRM in 2009.
JoAnn's diverse background and years of experience allow her to bring practical examples and illustrations into her presentations.
Faculty NameNidia Candelmo
Nidia Candelmo brings over 25 years of personal insurance knowledge and experience to her role as a Senior Client Advisor for Marsh Private Client Services. Nidia manages complex insurance programs for affluent families and provides counsel and risk management solutions based on changes in client's lifestyles that may impact their risk profile and coverages.
A longtime resident of both the New York and the Naples/Sarasota areas, Nidia also brings special insight into the nuances of local and Northeastern risks and market realities while she takes advantage of Marsh's national and international reach for clients with out-of-state properties and assets elsewhere. Before joining Marsh, she worked for independent insurance brokers in New York and New Jersey. She studied at Hunter College and New Jersey City University and earned her CPCU in 2013.
Faculty NameDennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips is an Assistant Vice-President with USI Insurance Services National, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia, where he manages the accounts of about 200 high net worth personal lines clients. He began his insurance career in 1982 and for the past 33 years has focused almost exclusively on insuring affluent and high net worth families.
He is a faculty member for both the Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) and the new Certified Personal Risk Manager (CPRM) programs.
Dennis earned his CIC designation in 1994 and his Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education from Beulah Heights University in 1977.
Dennis and his wife live in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In his spare time, Dennis enjoys spending time with family, building stuff, hiking, writing, painting, backpacking, sport shooting and playing pool. In 2010, he published a science fiction novel on Amazon's Kindle Books entitled, The Proximian.
Faculty NameLaura Sherman
Laura Sherman is co-founder of Baldwin Krystyn Sherman Partners (BKS) and Baldwin Risk Partners (BRP). BKS was founded in 2006 and BRP in 2012. BKS consistently posts industry-leading growth and superior client retention rates and is the recipient of numerous local and national awards, which recognize the firm's growth and excellence in the insurance industry and as an employer.
Previously, Laura was the senior vice president and managing director of Wachovia Insurance Services Private Risk Management division for the Georgia region. She also worked with Chubb Group of Insurance Companies in various roles including the assistant worldwide marketing manager, where she developed marketing collateral and national public relations campaigns, helped create the Ferrari Insurance Program and toured with the PBS Antiques Roadshow for its first five seasons.
Laura specializes in providing risk management solutions for the affluent and for the collections of private collectors and museums. She authors articles as a Worth magazine leading advisor and is interviewed by news organizations regarding risk management trends. She speaks on risk management topics at national forums and serves on insurer councils, including the Advisory Board of the Council for Insuring Private Clients, AIG Private Client Group National Broker Council and the Regional Safeco Advisory Council. Most recently, she was one of six individuals who earned the 2016 Power Broker designation for the inaugural Private Client category by Risk & Insurance.
Highly involved in her community, Laura serves on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of Tampa and the Children's Dream Fund. She is on The Bank of Tampa Women Connected Advisory Board and the Tampa Museum of Art Foundation Board. She is also a member of the Tampa Bay History Center Collections Committee. Laura has a bachelor's degree in economics from DePauw University. She and her husband have two sons, and she enjoys spending time with family, travel, college football and hiking.
