Richard Bren

Bio Detail

During his career Rich has learned from truck insurance specialists from around the North American continent and a wide variety of commercial auto risk experiences. He's been in roles inside insurance companies, agencies, and specialty product providers. Richard A. Bren, CPCU, CIC, TRS has been directly involved in 'truck insurance' since 1987. At that time he started with Great West Casualty Company as an Underwriter, in time became their Corporate Marketing Officer, and returned to an operational position as Director of Underwriting & Safety from 1999-2001. Rich was involved in all aspects of being a retail insurance agency partner while at Southwest Truck Insurance Group (AZ); 2001-2009. He returned company VP roles with Gateway Insurance Company (2009-2010) and Occidental Fire and Casualty Company of North Carolina (2010-2012). Contractor Management Services (2012-2013) had roles in Channel Development and Sales that brought Rich back to AZ where he resides today. Since July 2013 he has served as VP - Transportation for International Excess Program Managers of Beachwood, OH. Rich has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Management from the University of South Dakota (1985). His designations include CPCU (1992), CIC (1995), and TRS (2013). As member of Toastmasters International, he served in many Officer Roles and obtained the designations of CTM, ATM-S, and CL. Rich has been a CPCU class instructor and began presenting to CIC and AAMGA audiences in 2007. He is a charter recipient of the Motor Carrier Insurance Education Foundation's Transportation Risk Specialist (TRS) designation, is a contributor to the MCIEF Annual Conferences, and participates in the Advisory & Curriculum Committees. Rich has contributed to and led various webinars and live training events to Insurance and Trucking audiences for over 25 years. Rich remains active in various transportation groups including the Arizona Trucking Association, The Expedite Association of North America, and the Transportation Intermediaries Association. He's served on Boards, Committees, and various events or programs of numerous transportation groups. Rich has been a Patient Board Member of the American Sleep Apnea Association since November 2009; also participating in the teams that successfully coordinated several Transportation Conferences on sleep and fatigue management issues.

M. Thomas Ruke

Bio Detail

Tommy was born in Sampson County, North Carolina and graduated from Wake Forest University in 1964 with a B.S. in Math and Physics. He is President of Insurance Business Consultants, Inc. and is a producing agent. He achieved his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 1976, his Certified Professional Insurance Agent lifetime designation in 1990 and his Certified Wholesale Insurance Specialist designation in 1997. Tommy has served the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors as a member of the National Faculty, as a past member of the Board of Governors and the National Education Committee. He instructs in the James K. Ruble Certified Insurance Counselors seminars and in CIC's Institutes and was the developer of the CIC Advanced seminar on Insuring Motor Carriers. Tommy has worked closely with the American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA). Tommy took on the responsibility of Director of Education for the AAMGA University in 1992 that required him to develop and oversee all education efforts for the AAMGA. He gave up the Directorship in 1998 and the responsibility of instructing AAMGA sponsored programs in 2012. These programs called not only upon Tommy's insurance expertise but also upon a long family involvement with long-haul trucking and ten years as an International Harvester dealer prior to entering into the insurance business in 1974. In 2013 Tommy developed a new program. Using the past 30+ years of teaching experience for the CIC and the AAMGA and with the help of other insurance professionals he developed and started the Motor Carrier Insurance Education Foundation (MCIEF) that provides face-to-face presentations, web-based education and information designed for insurance professionals who provide services and insurance to motor carriers as well as motor carriers [transportationriskspecialist.com].
