Most businesses have exposures that can be protected by the most common commercial casualty coverages offered in the insurance marketplace. This institute focuses on providing a thorough understanding of these primary coverage areas. You will understand how to design the best coverage for your client.

Participants will:

  • Learn what liability exposures exist in the areas of premises, operations, products and completed operations, and personal and advertising injury liability. Understand important legal concepts and how they correlate with CGL coverage. Determine what coverage the CGL provides, who is insured, what is excluded, how the limits apply and be able to identify appropriate CGL endorsements.
  • Explore the reasons for additional insured status and what problems may be created by adding an additional insured. The purpose, coverage and limitations of the more commonly used additional insured endorsements will be explained. Waivers of subrogation and the impact of the “Other Insurance” policy condition will also be addressed.
  • Identify the major coverages and exposures related to various uses of “covered autos” (owned, nonowned and hired). Determine “who is as an insured”, what exclusions apply, the gaps of coverage, and some endorsements that modify the Business Auto Coverage Form.
  • Understand important legal concepts and employment exposures of today’s workers compensation system. Workers Compensation and Employers Liability Insurance will be explained along with some of the more commonly used endorsements.

Daniel Fink

Bio Detail

Daniel Fink has 35 years of experience as an Independent Insurance Agent in the Midwest and Southwest. In 2013 he moved from the agency to the company side and has served as Territorial Manager for UCA General Insurance & Pacific Excess. UCA is a program manager for Commercial Property and Liability Packages including Restaurants, Hotels, Condo Associations, and Shopping Centers After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in Journalism and English from Oakland University, Rochester, MI, Daniel worked as a free-lance newspaper reporter. But then he married into an insurance family and most of his creative writing turned into writing of insurance coverages. He learned insurance from the ground up and helped to grow the family agency eventually managing the commercial lines department and starting a hospitality insurance division specializing in hotels, restaurants, and taverns. In 1999, Daniel returned to his home state of Arizona with his family. He ran his own commercial lines agency for a time and then joined a larger Arizona agency. Since 2004, Daniel has been teaching classes for The National Alliance and state associations including the CIC and CISR programs. He has also spoken at convention and trade associations on insurance coverages, risk management, and insurance topics In 2011, Daniel served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona and prior to that served on the its board of directors and as chairman of its education committee. Daniel also serves as an expert witness on insurance matters and standard of care assisting attorneys on insurance litigation matters. He has served on the committee to review the insurance agents licensing exam for the State of Arizona. Daniel has been active in teaching, sports, drama, writing, and playing with his grandson. He also likes to attend and work in his local church and working with children including AZ foster kids. His loves include his three children: Andrea (33), Sarah (30), and DJ (27), and his grandson Avery (8). Daniel just married his love and fellow adventurer Dina on Christmas Eve 2015. And with her, they now have 6 grandchildren which they thoroughly enjoy.

Brandi Anderson

Bio Detail

Brandi Anderson started her insurance career with a Direct Writer before transferring over to the independent agency system. She has worked as a personal lines CSR, as well as a Vice President of a mid-sized agency. Brandi spent several years as Education Director with the Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas before moving back into a marketing role within the state. Brandi currently handles marketing in Arkansas for Nationwide Insurance and was the 2017 Sales Manager of the year for that company. Brandi has taught various commercial and personal education courses over the last 15 years. She has given multiple Errors & Omissions presentations and acted as an expert witness in several court cases. She has written Ethics programs for the IIA of Arkansas as well as coverage courses for the PIA. Brandi earned her CIC designation in 2000. She also holds the Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) and Excellence In Service (EIS) designations.

Patrick Deem

Bio Detail

Patrick Deem began his insurance industry career in December 1969 with USF&G Insurance Company in the Louisville, Kentucky Branch Office. He has been an Underwriting Manager, Sales Manager, Excess and Surplus Lines Underwriter, and an Independent Insurance Agent. Patrick publishes articles and conducts seminars on a state and national basis regarding technical subjects of property and casualty insurance for insurance and trade associations. In addition, Patrick has served as an insurance consultant and testified as an expert witness in various fields associated with the insurance industry. Currently, Patrick is a licensed Risk Manager in Texas. He founded Risk Management and Insurance Education Services in Austin, Texas, an independent company which serves insurance companies, agents, and insureds. Patrick holds the Certified Insurance Counselor designation, which he obtained in 1984. He has been a National Faculty member for The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research since 1986.
