In order to maximize coverage and protect your increasingly complex commercial property accounts, it is important to have a detailed understanding of Commercial Property coverages and endorsements, as well as the concepts used when correctly writing this business. Equally important is a familiarity with other coverages such as Time Element (Business Income), and Equipment Breakdown. At this institute you will learn to help provide your customers with the advice and protection they need.

Participants will:

  • Examine the property coverage found in the Building and Personal Property Coverage Form including the various Additional Coverages, Coverage Extensions, and Optional Coverages. Discuss valuation methods and the application of coinsurance. Learn the proper use of various endorsements.
  • Examine the common coverage, exclusions, and limitations of the three Causes of Loss Forms (Basic, Broad, and Special) with emphasis on the Special Causes of Loss Form. You will also explore the need for the Legal Liability Coverage Form.
  • Learn the property exclusions that determine when an Equipment Breakdown Policy is needed. Determine the types of equipment to include, and the role of engineering as it relates to these policies.
  • Determine the what, how, and why of Business Income Coverage and Extra Expense coverage. Learn the importance of complying with the coinsurance provision and which Optional Coverages are used to remove or suspend this provision. Examine several valuable Business Income endorsements.

Daniel Fink

Bio Detail

Daniel Fink has 35 years of experience as an Independent Insurance Agent in the Midwest and Southwest. In 2013 he moved from the agency to the company side and has served as Territorial Manager for UCA General Insurance & Pacific Excess. UCA is a program manager for Commercial Property and Liability Packages including Restaurants, Hotels, Condo Associations, and Shopping Centers After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in Journalism and English from Oakland University, Rochester, MI, Daniel worked as a free-lance newspaper reporter. But then he married into an insurance family and most of his creative writing turned into writing of insurance coverages. He learned insurance from the ground up and helped to grow the family agency eventually managing the commercial lines department and starting a hospitality insurance division specializing in hotels, restaurants, and taverns. In 1999, Daniel returned to his home state of Arizona with his family. He ran his own commercial lines agency for a time and then joined a larger Arizona agency. Since 2004, Daniel has been teaching classes for The National Alliance and state associations including the CIC and CISR programs. He has also spoken at convention and trade associations on insurance coverages, risk management, and insurance topics In 2011, Daniel served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona and prior to that served on the its board of directors and as chairman of its education committee. Daniel also serves as an expert witness on insurance matters and standard of care assisting attorneys on insurance litigation matters. He has served on the committee to review the insurance agents licensing exam for the State of Arizona. Daniel has been active in teaching, sports, drama, writing, and playing with his grandson. He also likes to attend and work in his local church and working with children including AZ foster kids. His loves include his three children: Andrea (33), Sarah (30), and DJ (27), and his grandson Avery (8). Daniel just married his love and fellow adventurer Dina on Christmas Eve 2015. And with her, they now have 6 grandchildren which they thoroughly enjoy.

Christine Marciano

Bio Detail

Christine Marciano is a Sales & Training Leader for WCF/Advantage Workers Compensation Company. New to WCF/Advantage, she was previously with Nationwide where her sales successes earned her a place at Conference of Champions for 2017 & 2018. With 15 years of industry experience, she has worked in Claims, Agent & Underwriter Training, and Sales. She currently manages a California territory for WCF/Advantage. Christine travels nationally to work with agents, marketing managers and underwriters, teaching coverage, communications and sales. As a seasoned conference speaker, she has been named twice by Training magazine as an Emerging Training Leader and is a published author. In 2014, she was honored with Nationwide's CEO Award - her company's highest honor. She holds an Advanced Communicator Bronze from Toastmasters International. Christine is active in SITE (Society of Insurance Trainers & Educators) and is a faculty member of the Train the Trainer program, designed to educate insurance training professionals across the U.S. Christine has a Business degree from Oregon State University, received her CIC designation in 2007, and is working toward her CRM designation.
