Michael Kersgard is an independent P&C and L&H licensed agent in Texas. He most recently served as the Life and Health Academic Director for The National Alliance for more than 6 years, 2008 to 2014. In addition to being an independent agent, Michael continues to be a National Faculty Member, CISR instructor and Educational Consultant for The National Alliance.
During his forty plus years working in the industry, his experience includes Life, Health, and Property & Casualty products in personal lines, commercial lines, and farm/agribusiness. Michael has been involved in a variety of functions including agent, marketing, sales management, and agent training. Through the years he has conducted new agent training schools, continuing education seminars, and license training schools.
Faculty NameDennis Stone
Dennis Stone has over 34-years experience in the insurance profession as Company Manager and Independent Agency Owner/Manager. He holds a Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma and has continued his professional education by earning the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
The entrepreneurial spirit in Dennis has led him on a very interesting career path. Obtaining his license at age 20, he gained experience and insight in life insurance sales and service. Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma, he began in a management position with a major life insurance company and continued his career by successfully forming and managing an Oklahoma life insurance company. He then started an independent multi-line insurance agency from scratch, purchased three property casualty agencies during the next seven years, and then branched out to create a full service travel agency. He presently enjoys his position as a seminar speaker and continuing education provider across the country.
Dennis is a member of the National Faculty for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. He conducts educational seminars nationwide on topics ranging from agency management, E&O, agency valuation and enhancement, human resource management, and policy coverage.
Faculty NameJay Williams*
Jay Williams is a National Faculty Member and an Educational Consultant for The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. He earned his CIC designation in 1996 and his CRM designation in 2004.
He is a veteran of the insurance industry, starting his career in 1979. His experience includes 21 years in the agency business, nine years at the Florida Association of Insurance Agents, and seven years as an insurance company and PEO executive. Jay also served as the interim CEO for Applied Client Network, the user-group association for agents using Applied Systems platforms.
Jay has been teaching formal insurance classes for over 20 years, including both technical insurance and E&O loss control classes for FAIA. He was part of the IIABA Loss Control Working Group for 5 years and also served on the Professional Liability Committee.
His experience on the agency, association, and company sides gives Jay a uniquely rounded perspective on the insurance industry. His most recent position was the CEO of a construction risk wholesale operation. In addition to his work as an insurance educator, Jay serves as an expert witness, a consultant to insurance companies, associations, agencies, and industry-related partners, and an E&O auditor.
