Jerry Rhinehart graduated from the University of West Florida in 1970 (College of Education). After teaching at the high school level for a brief time, he moved into the insurance industry. He worked for a property and casualty direct writer for several years. In 1983, he and his wife opened an independent insurance agency in Tallahassee, Florida. While there he focused primarily on the life, health, and financial services area. Additionally he began working in the Continuing Education field as a speaker and writer. The property and casualty division was sold in 1995. Today Jerry continues to operate Rhinehart & Associates located in Panama City, Florida, where he works with clients concerning life insurance, long-term care, and annuities.
Jerry serves on the National Faculty of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. He attained his CIC designation in 1986, CLU in 1987, ChFC in 1988, and RHU in 1997. He is a Director and Past President for the Tallahassee Chapter of CLU and ChFC. He also served as Director and Secretary/Treasurer for Professional Insurance Agents of Florida and is a past Agent of the Year for that organization. He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (Austin, TX).
Since 1986 Jerry has conducted more than 1,500 programs to insurance, CPA, attorney, and Human Resource groups on topics that range from Estate Planning, Long-Term Care, Life Insurance, Annuities, Business Perpetuation, and Health Insurance. He frequently writes articles for various insurance trade magazines on the above topics. Additionally, he serves as an expert witness in legal proceedings regarding life and health insurance matters.
Faculty NameMary LaPorte
Mary is president of LaPorte Consulting, LLC which provides consulting services and education for the insurance industry. With over 30 years of agency experience, she has held positions of agency Claim Manager, Personal Lines Manager, Excess & Surplus Lines Manager and agency principal. She is licensed as a Property & Casualty Agent and Licensed Insurance Counselor in the State of Michigan.
She attained the CPCU designation in 1987, the CIC designation in 1992 and the CPIA designation in 2010. Mary currently is on the national faculty for the Society of CIC and is an active member of the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants. She conducts a variety of continuing education classes and moderates CPIA and E&O loss control seminars. Mary acts as a consultant in the area of agency operations, workflow and Errors & Omissions loss control. She writes a column called "E&O Q&A" which is published in several association periodicals and has authored a book titled "Mission:EXCELLENCE - Creating an Internal E&O Loss Control Program".
Faculty NameAllen Messer
Allen Messer began his insurance career in March of 1971. He has worked for several different insurance companies in various capacities and has been involved in the independent agency system as a producer and agency owner.
Allen currently consults agencies, companies, risk managers, and attorneys as well as instructs various seminars and live webinars. He earned his CPCU designation in 1981 where he received the Distinguished Graduate Award for attaining the highest academic average in the Nation. He earned his CIC designation in 1977 and serves as an Educational Consultant and is a National Faculty member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.
