Commercial Property Institute

In order to maximize coverage and protect your increasingly complex commercial property accounts, it is important to have a detailed understanding of Commercial Property coverages and endorsements, as well as the concepts used when correctly writing this business. Equally important is a familiarity with other coverages such as Time Element (Business Income), and Equipment Breakdown. At this institute you will learn to help provide your customers with the advice and protection they need.

Participants will:

  • Examine the property coverage found in the Building and Personal Property Coverage Form including the various Additional Coverages, Coverage Extensions, and Optional Coverages. Discuss valuation methods and the application of coinsurance. Learn the proper use of various endorsements.
  • Examine the common coverage, exclusions, and limitations of the three Causes of Loss Forms (Basic, Broad, and Special) with emphasis on the Special Causes of Loss Form. You will also explore the need for the Legal Liability Coverage Form.
  • Learn the property exclusions that determine when an Equipment Breakdown Policy is needed. Determine the types of equipment to include, and the role of engineering as it relates to these policies.
  • Determine the what, how, and why of Business Income Coverage and Extra Expense coverage. Learn the importance of complying with the coinsurance provision and which Optional Coverages are used to remove or suspend this provision. Examine several valuable Business Income endorsements.

Bart Tucker

Bio Detail

Bart Tucker is a Principal with the RHSB Insurance Agency in Fort Worth, Texas where he has worked since 1980. Bart graduated from Texas Tech University with an MBA and a BBA in Finance. He earned his CIC designation in 1981 and obtained his CPCU and CLU designations. Bart has served on the Board of Directors of the PIA of Texas and the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas. He also served on the Board, and is Past Chairman of the Mid-American Insurance Conference. Additionally, he has served on the Texas Commercial Package Policy, Homeowners Insurance Policy and Dwelling Policy committees for the Texas Department of Insurance. Bart taught insurance at TCU from 1981 until 2017, as part time faculty at the University. He is currently serving on the Commercial Lines Industry Liaison Panel for ISO. Bart has been a member of the National Faculty of the Society of CIC since 1987 and has spoken in over 45 states and Puerto Rico.

Robert Ward

Bio Detail

Bob Ward is a partner of Whitford Insurance Network, Inc., located in Exton, Pennsylvania. He started his insurance career in 1981 as a claims adjuster for General Accident in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and in 1982 joined INA as an underwriter in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1983 he moved to the F.J. Ward Agency in Coatesville, Pennsylvania as an independent agent. In 1990, Bob formed the R.A. Ward Agency of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and in 1993 he merged that agency with the Whitford Agency of Exton, Pennsylvania to form Whitford Insurance. In 2002, Whitford Insurance network became a member of Keystone Insurers Group. Bob earned his CIC designation in 1985, his CPIA in 1989, and his CWCA in 2009. He has been speaking at CIC seminars since 1995 and is currently a member of the Alliance's National CIC Faculty. Bob has also been active with PIA of PA, MD, and DE, serving on the board in 1995-1996, as well as various company advisory councils.
