Faculty NameAngelynn Heavener
Angie Heavener began her insurance career in 1971 joining her family's agency. She held numerous positions in the agency consisting of CSR, producer, and eventually agency owner. In 1993, she sold her agency to join the staff of the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois. She began as assistant vice president of Marketing/Instructor and was shortly promoted to vice-president of Education. She is currently the principal of Insurance Training Plus, Inc., a professional training and consulting firm focused on education and agency operations, that she began in 2002.
Angie served as education chairperson for the IIAI and PIIAI, as well as a committee member for the IIABA education committee. She has also served on numerous other state and national committees. Angie received the Young Agent of the Year Award in 1991, obtained her CIC designation in 1994, and her Certified Professional Insurance Agent designation in 1999.
Angie teaches numerous property and casualty education seminars throughout the country and is a frequent speaker at state conventions. Angie also teaches sales, service and operations programs. She is a national faculty member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.
Angie is an approved auditor for a number of E&O carriers and conducts internal Errors and Omissions audits on agencies throughout the country. She also consults with agencies on developing procedures, workflows and sales centers. Angie co-authored a book on Errors and Omissions audits and writes articles for various state insurance association magazines.
Faculty NameJ. Christopher Bunbury
Chris Bunbury is an Environmental Strategist and President of Environmental Strategist, Inc. (ESI), located in LeLand, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources. In 1988, he worked in the commercial property and casualty insurance industry as a retail commercial insurance producer. As the environmental insurance industry evolved, it was a natural transition for Chris to move into this evolving field.
Chris has worked with a wide variety of entities from business, to government, education, and environmental service providers. In 1996, he set out to develop an educational training program to assist insurance agents to proactively address the environmental issues that impact their clients and prospects. In 1998 after two years of research, which included meeting with over 300 independent insurance agencies, Chris created ESI. The mission is to train agents about the environmental issues that impact their commercial insureds and the solutions available.
Faculty NameAllen Messer
Allen Messer began his insurance career in March of 1971. He has worked for several different insurance companies in various capacities and has been involved in the independent agency system as a producer and agency owner.
Allen currently consults agencies, companies, risk managers, and attorneys as well as instructs various seminars and live webinars. He earned his CPCU designation in 1981 where he received the Distinguished Graduate Award for attaining the highest academic average in the Nation. He earned his CIC designation in 1977 and serves as an Educational Consultant and is a National Faculty member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.
