Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act of 1996 (“NMHPA”)

A federal regulation that requires group and individual plans that offer maternity benefits to provide coverage for a hospital stay following a normal delivery for no less than 48 hours for both the mother and newborn child. This limit is extended to 96 hours following a cesarean section birth.
