To promote innovation in the insurance industry, MarketScout’s 12thannual Entrepreneurial Insurance Symposium will be held in September in Dallas, Texas. In order to incubate and foster new insurance concepts and ideas, the Symposium was created by MarketScout—with support from The National Alliance—to fill an industry-wide need for a think-tank. The Entrepreneurial Insurance Symposium has become an invaluable forum where hundreds of forward-thinking insurers, intermediaries, and agents come together to listen to amazing speakers and discuss new ideas, trends, and concepts related to insurance distribution, underwriting, and automation.
Richard Kerr is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MarketScout Corporation, a Dallas, Texas-based electronic insurance exchange, which presents best of class Certified Market Specialists to its 35,000-member agency network across the United States. Richard is Chairman of MSW (MarketScout Wholesale), and Chief Executive Officer of Monster Insurance Company, a Bermuda-based insurer. He is founder of the Entrepreneurial Insurance Alliance and the Entrepreneurial Insurance Symposium, an annual conference that explores and promotes entrepreneurship in the insurance industry.
In 2012, he founded the Council for Insuring Private Clients (CIPC), an association serving those in the high net worth personal insurance space. He previously served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lambert Fenchurch US Holdings, Chairman of Sedgwick Energy, President of Sedgwick James of Texas, and was a partner with Arthur L. Owen insurance. Richard has an extensive background in launching new ventures and entrepreneurial concepts in all facets of insurance underwriting and distribution. He is a sought-after keynote speaker and lecturer on industry economic trends, pricing, distribution and underwriting concepts. Richard participates in various forums during the year. As an author, he has written two technical insurance publications, as well as articles for over 20 different insurance publications. His monthly Market Barometer is published by over fifteen insurance trade journals and various other business publications including The Wall Street Journal.
Richard holds a Business degree in insurance and risk management from the University of Texas in Austin and serves as a board member for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He founded the Kerr Educational Trust, which helps under-privileged students by providing college tuition and related expenses. He also founded HEROES, a support organization that honors American soldiers returning from active duty.
Albert A. Benchimol serves as President and CEO of AXIS Capital, a global leader in specialty insurance and reinsurance. He is responsible for the strategic oversight of the Company’s global business operations, which span 30 locations across 12 countries. Under his leadership, AXIS has increased its focus on expanding its global underwriting platform to both established and emerging markets to ensure the Company provides specialty risk solutions in every region in which its clients operate.
One of the insurance industry’s preeminent thought leaders on specialty risk, Albert, along with the AXIS leadership team, has helped establish the Company as an industry innovator and expert at helping its partners manage complex risks in today’s transformative marketplace. AXIS is also a responsible global citizen that has developed community-based charity programs in each of the markets in which it operates.
Albert has more than 25 years of insurance industry experience. He joined AXIS in January 2011 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was appointed President and CEO of AXIS in May 2012, having joined its Board of Directors in January 2012. Prior to AXIS, he was at PartnerRe Ltd. from 2000 to 2010, serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and concurrently as CEO of PartnerRe Ltd.’s Capital Markets Group business unit from June 2007 through September 2010. He also held senior management roles at Reliance Group Holdings Inc. and at the Bank of Montreal.
Tim Turner is Chairman and CEO of RT Specialty, RSG’s wholesale brokerage operation. Tim has had an extraordinary 30-year career providing leadership, expertise and service within the insurance industry. Prior to joining RSG, Tim was the President of CRC Insurance Services, Inc. (CRC), one of the largest wholesale insurance brokers in the U.S. at the time.
Prior to CRC, Tim joined the Crump Group in 1990 as a casualty broker. He quickly distinguished himself as a leader and was named President of the Chicago Office.
Tim began his insurance career as a casualty broker with A.J. Renner & Associates in 1987. Prior to his entry into the insurance industry, Tim graduated from the Detroit Police Academy, served on the Wayne County SWAT Team and as an undercover narcotics officer with the Narcotics Cocaine Task Force with the Michigan State Police.
A graduate of Madonna University, Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
Sean Kevelighan joined the Insurance Information Institute as President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2016. Previously, he was Group Head of Public Affairs for Zurich Insurance Group where he oversaw Government and Industry Affairs as well as Corporate Responsibility. He joined Zurich in May 2013 as Head of Government and Industry Affairs for North America, with responsibility for driving the public policy agenda in the region. Prior to that, he worked at Citigroup, Inc., as Head of Strategic Communications for its Global Consumer Banking business, and for Zurich, as Head of Group Media Relations in North America.
Sean has served in various public-sector posts in Washington, D.C. As a political appointee in the administration of President George W. Bush, he served first in the Department of Treasury as a spokesperson for economic issues, and eventually became Senior Advisor for the Office of Tax Policy. He was also the Press Secretary for the White House Office of Management and Budget. Additionally, he worked on Capitol Hill, serving on the staff of members of Congress, most notably as Legislative Director for Representative Bob Schaffer of Colorado.
Sean's private sector experience in Washington, D.C., included positions at public affairs firms such as Edelman and Hill & Knowlton. He advised numerous multinational and FORTUNE 100 corporate clients on policy issue management programs, corporate reputation campaigns and crisis communications.
Sean is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. He and his wife Annik have two children. He is an avid enthusiast of exercise and outdoors, participating regularly in triathlons and other sporting events.
Murphy Jensen is an entrepreneur, former professional tennis player, and Founder and EVP Business Development of WEconnect Recovery. WEconnect Recovery is a relapse prevention and real-time outcomes data platform, providing on-the-go custom support and connection for those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Murphy works tirelessly to reduce the stigma of addiction, and to encourage and lead others with the disorder to receive proper care. His goal is to bring awareness to addiction and leave behind a legacy of helping others.
Murphy is also a former French Open Champion and currently serves as the head coach of the Washington Kastles of World TeamTennis. He has coached tennis superstars including Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Martina Hingis, Leander Paes, Victoria Azarenka, Francis Tiafoe, and many more.
Daniela Luzi Tudor is a serial entrepreneur. She is the Founder and CEO of WEconnect Recovery, the relapse prevention and real-time outcomes data platform. WEconnect is an on-the-go custom support and connection system for those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, a first of its kind in the digital healthcare space. This venture is guided by Daniela’s core mission, using the vast potential of technology to connect people and communities for physical and behavioral mental health.
Daniela’s belief in the combined power of art, music, and technology to build communities and solve problems stems from her own experience with overcoming adversity. Her career has had a dual focus on entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. She has founded or been instrumental in three start-ups and has a strong track record as an intrapreneur and evangelist in the technology world. Her career also had a heavy focus on building successful engineering and development teams on a consulting basis for major enterprises such as Microsoft, Union Bank, and major motion picture studios. The story behind Daniela’s inspiration for WEconnect and her other ventures has been featured in Forbes, TechCrunch, Geekwire, Seattle Times, and more.
In her spare time, Daniela enjoys crossing off items on her annual bucket list, reading, and recently has picked up screenwriting.
Reid Colson is the Chief Data and Analytics Officer for Markel Corporation. Reid joined Markel in 2015 and is responsible for Reporting, Data Governance, Analytics, Innovation, and Digital Strategy.
Prior to Markel, Reid spent 13 years at Capital One as part of a 20+ year career spanning Data Technology, Business Analysis, Data Analysis, Predictive Modeling, Data Stewardship, and Operations. He has passion for data-driven insights and products and has been able to build value-added solutions across several segments of the financial services industry.
Reid is a graduate of both Florida State University and Rice University. He lives in Richmond with his wife Megan and two kids.
David Ross was appointed CEO of The Ardonagh Group in June 2017. This represented the culmination of a two-year process by shareholders and management to create the market leading independent distribution group in the UK.
David became the CEO of Towergate, the original investment by HPS in the UK insurance intermediary industry, in November 2015 and led the business through a period of turnaround and transformation which included stabilizing revenue, people, financials, infrastructure, and governance. The demonstrable progress made with the Towergate transformation during 2016 and 2017 enabled the creation of the Ardonagh Group in June 2017. David advised MDP and HPS on the acquisition of the other assets required to fulfill the vision during 2015 and 2016.
An Insead Alumnus, David’s career has spanned 27 years on the front line of the insurance industry. This included a 25-year career at Arthur J Gallagher, most recently as the CEO of the International Division, during which time the company underwent a defining period of growth and expansion.
Chris Treanor is the President of Programs and Specialty Products for HUB International, responsible for the development and execution of a strategy to acquire and grow MGAs/Program Managers. He is also responsible for working with HUB leadership and offices to create specialty solutions for HUB customers.
Prior to joining HUB in July of 2015, Chris was President of Preferred Concepts, LLC., a nationwide program manager. He joined Preferred in 2010 when the company acquired Mercator Risk Services, Inc., a national wholesale brokerage firm which Chris co-founded in 2006.
Prior to founding Mercator, Chris worked for twenty years at Marsh, where he held leadership roles in brokerage, sales, and office management. Ultimately, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the firm’s global placement operations. Chris was a member of the Marsh, Inc. Board of Directors and the company’s Management Committee.
Chris received an AB in Economics and History magna cum laude from Duke University in 1985 and received his MBA from Columbia University in 1991. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Freedom House, Inc., a substance abuse halfway house facility with operations throughout New Jersey, as well as a Trustee and Vice Chairman of Centenary College, a four-year private college in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
Mike Falvey, Founder and CEO of Falvey Insurance Group, is a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Following his graduation, he worked with Affiliated FM Insurance as a cargo underwriter.
In 1979, Mike went to sea with various shipping companies and eventually joined the U.S. Military SeaLift Command, where he served as First Assistant Engineer on board MSC vessels providing fleet support for the U.S. Navy. From 1983 to 1984, he was the Liaison Officer to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in London. In 1984, he joined Donald J. Rojas, Inc. in Warwick, Rhode Island, and served as an underwriter from 1984 to 1995.
In 1995, Mike started Falvey Cargo Underwriting, Ltd., a covernote facility of Lloyd’s. The company specializes in providing marine cargo cover for the high tech and life science industries. It is the largest cargo covernote facility in Lloyd’s. He has grown that company since its inception to a multidiscipline insurance group including Falvey Cargo Underwriting, Falvey Shippers Insurance, Falvey Systems, LLC, and Safe Harbor Pollution Insurance, LLC all under the umbrella of Falvey Insurance Group. The company also has a reinsurance company in Bermuda, Falvey Insurance Company, Ltd.
Mike holds the following insurance disciplines: Charted Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associates in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM).
